Alpaca Mania 2004 in Central Point, Oregon
Ich dachte mir mal ich streue hier hin und wieder mal internationale Berichte & news mit ein, hier schonmal der erste:
Central Point, Oregon – AlpacaMania 2004 came to the Rogue Valley recently as alpaca lovers from all over the West gathered at the Jackson County Expo. Activities at the event, which was put on by the State of Jefferson Alpaca Association, included a halter and fleece show, vendors, fiber displays and information and even a photo contest. Just what makes the alpaca such a special animal?
“They are wonderful creatures to be around,” said Michael Scott, an alpaca breeder from Ione, California who came to Southern Oregon just for the show. “They’re the only livestock form you can profit from without killing.” Scott ahs also experienced a 15 point drop in his blood pressure over the four years he has owned alpacas. “They are a huggable investment,” he said. He and is wife, Carolyn, have 20 alpacas and board another eight on their eight acres. The yardstick, he said, is about 10 alpacas to the acre and 20 to 25 alpacas is about the size of herd he and his wife can successfully handle without hiring help ….
